I have gone by all the drug stores, I cannot find any vegetable gly. I have found a glycerin and rosewater, and a gly. usp. The usp does not mention vegetable, just says glycerin, usp 99.5% anhydrous. I think the usp is the right stuff thought I would ask though. Also I can't find any black foam rollers. The only foam rollers I have found are small ones. Will just a short napped paint roller work? Thanks, Mike

Mike,You dont have to use vegetable glycerin, the regular kind is fine.Im surprised you cant find regular black foam rollers, every hardware and paint store around me has them. Anyway, I recommend using the small ones over the low nap paint rollers. Provided you mean small in diameter not in width. Paint stores usally have small diameter foam rollers that are 6" or more wide.SincerelyDarryl Keil: I have gone by all the drug stores, I cannot find any vegetable gly. : I have found a glycerin and rosewater, and a gly. usp. Darryl,I was surprised myself on the rollers. First stop wal-mart, second kelly More paint, third a custom laminate shop, fourth Lowes. Lowes has some 6" long about a inch in diameter. Fifth Sutherlands lumber no go there either. Next week I will try other paint stores. Even a bigger shock on the glycerin. Drug wharehouse doesn't carry anything. Walgreens had the glycerin with rosewater{which looks like water}. Found the usp at wal-mart. Maybe you should stock these items, I have spent a lot of time running around and only getting frustrated. Gladly get the glue, rollers, flatten mixture and other accessaries from vacupress delivered at my door in 1 order. I hate to ask simple questions, as ther is alot of info on this site. ABout 3/4 down the site the respones and subjects get mixed matched. Thanks for all of your help Darryl.: Mike,: You dont have to use vegetable glycerin, the regular kind is fine.: Im surprised you cant find regular black foam rollers, every hardware and paint store around me has them. Mike,Thanks for the suggestion on rollers and glycerin. I never thought about carrying these items since they are so easy to get around here. I had no idea they were difficult to get elsewhere. As far as the mismatched posts, we had a porn site make their site come up when ever you entered the forum and look at messages. They somehow messed up a bunch of the messages and made it very difficult to extract their site. When we upload the new forum format the mismatched posts should be fixed.SincerelyDarryl Keil

I have been having the same problem with both of those items, up here in Vancouver. No luck on the glycerin yet. I'm using yellow foam rollers from Home Depot, the only type of foam roller I could find. But I think the foam on these is too thick, leading to problems of pieces of foam coming off when I'm rolling the glue and also making them pretty impossible to clean. I'm hating throwing these out at $5 a pop too. Thus I am wondering what else to use.

So I'm all with Mike: it would be great if there would be one place where all the supplies were available. Running around is so time consuming. I can't even imagine what it must be like if one lives in a smaller more remote community with even less to choose from.

Enrico, for spreading the glue I use an adhesive roller from home depot. It looks and feels sorta like the hook side of velcro. Works really well for any adhesive and can be washed numerous times. It won't work for the flattening agent though. Steve

Enrico,

If you cant find the foam rollers I mentioned or the kind Steve suggested just give us a call and I can send you some. My office manager thinks I should carry them anyway for all the folks having difficulty.

As far as the glycerin goes, we have a product called GF20 which has glycerin in it and can be substituted for the alcohol and glycerin in the flattening formula. We offer it in half gallons and gallons. If you call to order it I can explain more how you use it.

Sincerely
Darryl Keil

I am having the same frustration with those black foam paint rollers. They used to be in every Wal-Mart or Home Depot on any corner. They were ideal for Uni-Bond, but they have disappeared in my area. Anybody know a mail order source? I'd buy them in bulk. Thanks!

Is this what you are looking for?

I have been using the little yellow rollers at wal-mart. Works great for me I can mix smaller amounts and not waste a bunch soaking the roller up, to do a small job.

All glycerin is made from vegetable oil. For your application industrial grade glycerin should suffice, so you wouldn't have to use USP. The soap crafters use a lot of glycerine at decent prices, good luck
