Subject : Paperback Match to Raw?

I've been asked to veneer MDF using paperback flatcut larch and the desk is supposed to match the look of (raw) flatcut larch taped into sheets and glued onto mdf paneling. Mistake? I don't know the details of the finishing schedule.

The desktop will be 96" x 36" x 1 1/2". Urea formaldehyde or some sort of 2 hr open time PVA the paperback manuf recommended to the fabricator?
