Thanks for any advice! Kinda stuck!
I damaged an arch top antique clock, and its owner is very irate. The arch has a bead at two ends, so there is a set distance in which I'm working. In my first attempt, I laid up a "two ply" that would not be so fragile. Carefully prepared the fit between the two ends of the arch. Made flexible caul to press the veneer to arch. I used yellow glue because it would allow easier cleanup, and I don't want to re-finish entire clock. I dry fit assembly, using clamps for pressure, & it looked pretty good. However, when I rolled out the glue the whole thing was a wreck. The clamps wouldn't get good traction, I never got the veneer into good surface contact, and I ended up breaking the two ply down the center. I need a "plan B".
I've never tried this technique inside a vac bag with an internal air bladder. Then I think there are also some techniques where you can heat activate adhesives. I've already spent so much time on this that I need something quick-n-easy.
Thanks friends!!!
