Subject : Hammer Veneering large pre-jointed veneer panels

I am applying 1 foot X 8 1/2 foot pre-jointed veneer panels to a 1912 Pool Table I am currently restoring. I have not had good success using clamps and cauls because of the odd angles of the Pool Table frame. Has anyone had success hammer veneering large pre-jointed veneer panels? My panels are constructed with Cherry, Paduk and Mahogany as well as two different types of inlay strips. I am using white veneer tape to join the seams of these intricate panels. I'm concerned that the hammering and rolling motions will separate my seams. What has been your experience?
