Subject : Substrate for drawer false fronts/table aprons
Posted : 2002-01-21 7:29 PM
Post #29640

: I am making coffee tables and chests of drawers with curved aprons : and curved false drawer fronts. I've been laying up these components : as a sandwich with backer veneer on the inside, 3/8 bendable plywood, : another piece of backer veneer, another piece of 3/8 bendable ply, : and a 2-ply front with the good veneer on the outside. Is this : complicated and time-consuming sandwich needed? Will sawn pieces of : lumber substrate (say, 1/8"? 1/4"?) suffice? Springback? Is the : middle piece of veneer really needed? Easier ways to do it? Thanks.Jim, The basic rule is ; the more glue lines, the less spring back. The use of solid wood results in more resistance, and the more resistance, the more spring back. Hope this helps, John.
