I am about to make several panels of veneered baltic birch plywood. Each flat panel will be about 7' x 3.9' completely veneered on each side. I plan to start with sheets of 1/2" birch ply. On the face side, I plan to vacuum bag 0.090" thick Sapele and on the backside i will balance it with either 0.090" thick birch or maple or.... In either case the grain will be running lengthwise (parallel) as to the top layer of the plywood. The glue will be Unibond 800.
My question is: will these extra thick layers with grain running parallel cause warpage problems or will it remain balanced? If a problem, should I insert a cross banded layer of backing veneer between the plywood and each of the outside show layers. I would like to avoid the extra cost and work if it is felt that I do not need the cross banding layers.
Your comments and or suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks.
