In your shoes next I would remove the hose from the pump body and plug the outlet, and check the filter cover and connection for leaks.

When connected to the bag, does the pump seem to be creating a strong vacuum? If so, perhaps the sub-system that measures the vacuum and turns off the pump when the desired vacuum is reached is acting up. If the target vacuum level is set very low, perhaps 10 psi, and the generated vacuum seems much greater, perhaps this sub-system has an issue.
